Advantages

  • •Feels fast and seamless (no page reload)
  • •Users remain in context (scroll position preserved)
  • •Good for mobile (less intrusive than pagination)
  • •User controls the loading pace
  • •Reduces cognitive load compared to pagination

Disadvantages

  • •Can be less SEO-friendly (unless separate URLs exist)
  • •Harder for users to reach items far down the list
  • •Users may not realize how much content is available
  • •Back button doesn't preserve loaded state
  • •Can lead to very long pages affecting performance

Best Practices

  • •Indicate how many items are remaining ("Load 20 more of 200")
  • •Update URL/history to allow bookmarking/sharing
  • •Provide a fallback full pagination option for accessibility/SEO
  • •Show clear loading states and progress indicators
  • •Consider automatic loading after several manual loads
